( I have tons of shots of my scratch built wings and will add those soon... )

Flaps

Flap construction continues

Week of January 9th 2005 - With the frame assembled and the skins primed it's time to pop on the leading edges.

I learned pretty fast the your bound to get a lot of scratches and nasty marks all over those shinny leading edges if you don't protect the skin because when those pops "pop" the rivet gun goes anywhere it wants and scratches that steel mandrill right along with it.

A little duct tape magic and the scratching is a thing of the past.

Check it out...

Week of January 16th 2005 - The leading edges on now time to rivet on the skins...

I reused the HS jigs by just cutting away the unwanted bits.  Turns out there was plenty of material to build the flap saddle jig.

I found riveting the aft most rivets in the ribs to be challenging because of the tight spacing.  One solution was to use a squeezer yoke to buck the rivets.  Turns out those yokes are make out of pretty sturdy stuff so bucking against the very tip of the yoke works out great.  I also used this same yoke to buck tight places on the flap frame.
